AbstractIn the economic downturn, the development or survival of a company depends mainly on how to minimize direct or indirect operation costs. Inventory control is one of the effective measures to solve that problem. This study only focuses on inventory control policy for consumable goods and spare parts. For many reasons in reality, some materials/spare parts are not kept in inventory or kept at a low inventory level. When the equipment experiences a failure, some spare part is needed to help bring the equipment back to working condition. The common problem for inventory here is how to identify all consumable goods/spare part, how much to store, and how to monitor the number and the plan in order to help avoid production stoppage, reduce the cost and maximize the profit. This study will first summary all spare parts used in Phu My Fertilizer plant and develop inventory policies through mathematical model and the plant’s real business activities. These policies will help the plant establish an effective inventory control policy and bring competitive opportunities and profit increase for the plant.
