AbstractThe maximum force that a tire can supply is determined by the maximum value of the tire -road friction coefficient for a given normal vertical load on the tire . Hence it is very important to measure real -time tire road friction to ensure that sufficient amount of traction is provided during balancing, driving and braking of vehicle, also to make sure it is enough to provide adequate steering control and direction stability. Friction coefficient measurement in real time is a uniquely challenging research, as there are very few researches conducted in this field . A s most of the research done on bicycle and motor cycle modeling simply neglects the tire road interaction for model simplification. Electric bike is designed as test two -wheel vehicles capable of carrying human rid ing on it. As acceleration and braking require longitudinal forces, and balancing and turning depend on lateral forces . In this thesis longitudinal maximum tire -road friction coefficient measurement method is purposed for the forward accelerating electric vehi cle. The test i s conducted in differ ent surface such as Asphalt , Concrete, Marble surface and metal plate. The test result shows that the methodology applied to measure friction coefficient is able to distinguish between various surfaces w ith unique fricti on coefficient.
