Abstract | The hard disk drive business is growing and expanding its market. Nowadays, hard disks are used not only as storage drives in PCs, but are also used for server storage in businesses, in tablets and in game boxes. The output of hard disk drive factories is forecast to support demand from customers around the world. But in fact, many factors during assembly and test processes affect output. One method that can predict the root causes of drive downgrade during the assembly and test process is data mining. It can help to predict significant parameters or relationships between significant parameters and help engineers correct problems in the assembly and test process for each product. This thesis develops a prediction model relating assembly and test process parameters to downgrade probability. The developed model is now in place to provide feedback to improve assembly and test processes at Western Digital. |
