Abstract | Growth of ZnO nanowires on polypropylene fibers of filter media used in present hard disk drive applications have been successfully carried out by hydrothermal growth method. Experiments were done to study the photocatalytic property of ZnO nanowires to degrade volatile organic compounds and a standard test contaminant, methylene blue, to investigate the ability of the innovative filter media with ZnO nanowires for organic outgassing filtration. Under UV light exposure, the tested contaminant degraded very fast by using the innovative filter media with ZnO nanowires compared to the conventional filter media. Moreover, organic outgassing filtration was also significantly improved. |
