AbstractOptimized maintenance of plant machineries is one of the important tasks to reduce plant operating cost. To carry out these maintenance tasks smoothly, optimal number of Spare parts inventory is the most prioritized issue. This research presents the joint optimization of maintenance and spare parts inventory policy of a multi-component system. The decision variables are the ordering quantity and ratio of ordering interval to preventive maintenance interval. We used block based maintenance policy and periodic review spare parts inventory policy in this study. At the first stage, a cost function is developed assuming arrival time of failures follows Poisson process with a constant failure rate and machines are non-repairable. At the second stage, model is further expanded for the cases of failure processes which follow Non-homogeneous Poisson process and repairable machineries. The developed model is demonstrated by numerical examples. Additionally, sensitivity analysis is conducted to figure out the behavior of the objective function by varying input parameters.
