AbstractIn order to increase customers’ satisfaction and response to individual needs, the new concept Design By Customer (DBC) has been recently introduced. By providing maximum channels to get customers involved, the customers will get the products that truly satisfy their preferences. Therefore, the customers can engaged in a value creation from selecting standard products to creating new ones. However, there is a chance that the system might not be stable due to different interests. Moreover, the customers’ interests might not match with manufacturers’ capabilities. Thus, one way to solve this problem is to manage the customers’ interests to match with manufacturers’ capabilities by using choice architecture. Choice architecture is a new concept to structure choice which helps influence customers’ decision without forcing or commanding. In a contrast, the customers will be silently influence by the leader and select the choice that the leader desires. Therefore, the tools of choice architecture will play an important role to turn the customers’ interest towards a defined choice. In this research, the proposed concept is formed to explain the process of applying choice architecture in DBC. Furthermore, the case study has been conducted to show that the tools are applicable to help manage DBC effectively.
