AbstractDeforestation has occurred for long time. Therefore, community-base forest management has been applied in many rural areas of Thailand. Local people's participation is relevant part in this management. Some areas are influenced by organizations such as TAO and RFD, while the others are independent in management their forest resource. The case study of this research was in Ban Mae Kam Pong and Ban Huai Kaeo, Huai Kaeo Sub-District, Mae-On District, Chiang Mai Province. The objectives of this research were studying/comparing management and regulations in community forest of both villages, measuring participation level in community forest management activities between two villages and studying socioeconomic and influence factors affecting participation in community forest management. The sample size was 66 for Ban Mae Kam Pong and 73 for Ban Huai Kaeo. Methodologies were a secondary data collection, questionnaire survey and focus group. The outcome of this study illustrated that management In community forest of both villages was similar. The leader of the village and committees which were from local people had role in management of their forest resource. However, community forest management in Ban Huai Kaeo was influenced by local organization which was TAO. Weighted average index (WAI) was analyzed in participation level of community forest management. The result showed that total WAI of CF activities which were community forest management planning, CF protection activities, benefit sharing and CFM assessment. The overall result showed that local people in Ban Mae Kam Pong participated in community forest activities more than Ban Huai Kaeo. Socioeconomic and influence factors affecting community forest activities participation testing showed the result. Factors affecting in CF activities participation in Ban Mae Kam Pong were education level, net income and CF education workshops participation, while Ban Huai Kaeo was community forest management education workshops participation
