| Abstract | Mangrove resources have important roles on maintaining local people livelihoods and human well-being in Xuan Thuy National Park. However, with high dependence on natural resource, over-exploitation, ecotourism and lack of knowledge of local communities have been creating pressures on them. As a result, this study focuses on assessing mangroves resources use and main livelihood strategies, and then discovering the relation between local people and mangrove resources in region. The results showed that the degraded condition of mangrove resources by means of the types and levels of exploited activities and earnings from aquatic products, and the effects of different stakeholders on mangroves. Additionally, the main income sources are major cultivating rice and shrimp farming, and most of the average income is less than the average expenditure of each person in a day. Moreover, the study also presents the causes and effects of main problems: low income and the degradation of mangrove resources; and the support sources of organizations/ institutions to livelihood activities of local people in buffer zone. Additionally, we find the desire to developing livelihood activities which focus on mushroom production in the future with the suitable for condition and economy of each household in order to raise the living standards as well as manage sustainable mangroves. |
