AbstractMost natural resources of the world are presently still being used by farmers. It is believed that understanding the farming system will realize how farmers make decision on using the natural resources management and household decision making can be regarded asone of thenon-economic factors for farmers’ time utilizationand it is also one of the time use determinants upon the farmers’ time utilization and also realizing the farming system can get for the implementation of the sustainable natural resourcesmanagement.Thisstudy analyzesrice farmers’ time utilization on farming and non-farming activities in Pyapon Taman Village in Pyapon Township in Myanmar. The study adopted the stratified random sampling method in the selection of the households.Eighty-FiveHouseholds were randomly selected and the questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and cross tab tabulation. The findings showed that the medium farmersspent more hours in productive activities(household agricultural work and fishing)than small and large famers, large famers spent more hours in productive work (livestock keeping) than others and small famers spent more hours in reproductive work, leisure activities than others. The result of the analysis of variance revealed that there is a significant difference in the amount of time spent on farming activities (fishingunpaid) by the small, medium and large farmers.Summer seasons have more labor requirements and utilized more labor than monsoon season as the farmers had to carry out the agricultural activities with a short time due to the short period of summer rice variety. The total labor utilization for monsoon season is statistically significant among the farmers’ group in the case of usingfamily labor male, family labor female and hiredlabor male. For the summer season, there was significantly differentfor using familylabor maleand femaleamong three groups of farmers. Labor migration patternhad only small percentage for all the farmers and they faced the labor scarcity problem due to migration and they solved this problem by using the farm machine to save labor.Further researches on time utilization of rural youth on farming activities should be studied in order to reduce the poverty rate of rural regions by understanding rural youth participation on non-farming activities.
