AbstractThe aim of this thesis is a creation of the optimiz ation inspection and preventive maintenance policy of oil and gas production facili ties from historical data. This thesis is a contribution to refine reliability maintenance theories for the practical application. In this research, the failure modes and effects critical an alysis (FMECA) had been used to find the critical failure equipment. Further work on real 3-year historical failure data and cost records is also analyzed. The idea of failure mode classification has been applied so the policy is able to cater to each failure effect. All failure modes are sorted to find the priority in preparing the preventive maintenance policy based on their downtimes, a number of occurring with in 3 years and the average cost spend to recovery. The failure distribution type of each failure mode is defined from real 3-year historical failure data. Re-distribution theory is utilized to reduce the error of non-practical events. The significant failure modes are considered in maintenance decisions. The probability of failure and reliability is calculated from the failure distribution. Even though there are various maintenance policies, this thesis focused on an inspection and replacement policy. The policy selection reasons depend on process conditions and environments. The optimal maintenance plan bases on the minimum expected cost per unit of time of an infinite time span. The costs which are analyzed included both costs due to maintenance activities and costs due to loss of production when performing the maintenance activities. Moreover, the factors affec ting equipment reliability and optimal interval for inspection and replacement are evaluated. The failure characteristic is found to be very significant to the reliability of the optimal interval plan. Finally, this thesis generated a simple mathematical model to find the optimal inspection and preventive maintenance schedule of equipment. This model is also able to verify the reliability of the existing program and to find the inspection interval plan when the reliability of equipment is determined. However, the reliability of the integrated process system has not been included in this study.
