AbstractIn this study synthetic latex was replaced with bio -polymer latex in different proportion which was produced from tapioca starch which is imminent to be used in mill. Before starting the experiment, all raw materials were tested. The substrate was coated with slurry which contains pigments GCC 90(80 pph) and fine clay (20 pph) in it. There was no addition of CMC in 12 pph bio latex formulation only. All formulations were made without OBA and amount of coating additives were kept constant in i t. After that, the base paper was coated one side with target coat weight of 11.5 +/- 0.5 gs m was achieved. The coated paper was super calendered against steel roll; single nip wit h temperature of 80 C and load of 160 kN/m. Then measurement of coating color, coated pap er surface and printing properties was done. The addition of biopolymer latex has influence on the coating color and paper properties such as water retention, viscosity, wet void volume, sediment volume ratio, dry pick strength, delta gloss, and ink set off, print density, wet repellence, pore volume and ink tack rise whereas properties such as air volume %, wet pick, ink absorption and gloss of the paper were affected. However, there is no impact in properties of brightness and opacity of the paper.
