AbstractThis experiment was to study the influence of paper broke on paper drainage, study the effect of paper broke on retention and study the influence of paper broke on paper physical properties. The handsheets are made in laboratory scale. For making paper broke, hard wood kraft pulp and soft wood kraft pulp were used in this experiment for raw material is 80:20.This experiment used GCC 15% as filler. PAC, A- PAM and C-PAM 0.5% as retention aid AKD 7% as sizing. The variation of percentages of paper br oke in handsheets are 0%, 10%, 25% and 40%. After making handsheets, filtrate water was collected to replace RO water for using in the second batch. For making coated broke to compare with handsheets that made from paper broke, hard wood kraft pulp and soft wood kraft pulp were used in this experiment for raw material is 80:20.This experiment used GCC 15% as filler. PAC, A-PAM and C-PAM 0.5% as retention aid AKD 7% as sizing. Native starch and S/B Latex were added for 10%. Handsheets that made from paper broke are created and tested under standard condition and method in the laboratory. Important conclusion of this thesis is not only the percentages of paper broke content will effect on physical paper properties such as compression strength and tensile strength but also effect on drainage, charge density and Zeta-potential. Key words: Paper broke, Compression strength, Tensile strength, Charge density, Drainage, Zeta-potential, Retention aid.
