AbstractImproving strength for recycle d fiber is always necessary issue in order to achieve better products. In OCC, fractionation is one of the best choices to solve strength reducing problem. Furthermore, fractionation can save energy of the production process . In scope of this study, LOCC was material, fractionation by pressure screen was applied to investigate the strength of three layer testliner compare d with three layer testliner without fractionation (refined by PFI refiner) in term of burst strength, tensile strength, RCT, SCT , internal bonding, roughness and bending resistance . Moreover, role of long fiber (reject fraction) was surveyed when it was put it i n the top layer of three layer testliner. Additionally, t wo kinds of slot screen of fractionation were used which are 0.1 mm slot screen and 0.2 mm slot screen. All three layer testliner ha d same basic weight ( 160 g/m 2 ). Freeness of refined pulp and refined LF and refined LF mixed with its short fiber corresponding were the same (290 CSF ). Three layers testliner was made with loads ratio of t op: middle: bottom corresponding to 20 % : 40 % : 40% . LF, SF , refined LF and refined LF mixed with its short fiber ha d different pulp properties such as fines content (12.61% - 61.25%), fiber length (0.698mm - 1.155mm), freeness (75 CSF - 500 CSF) and coarseness (96.7 mg/m - 147.9 mg/m). Moreover , different slot screen (0.1 mm and 0.2 m m) were used for fractionators, the pulp properties also were different. In general, three layer testliner with fractionation and long fiber in the top layer ha d better quality in term burst strength, tensile strength, ring crush strength and SCT . On the other hand , internal bonding, roughness and bending resistance of three layer testliner with fractionation and long fiber in the top layer were lower . Furthermore , the fractionation with 0. 2 mm slot screen ha d better tensile index, ring crush, SCT and burst strength than the fractionation with 0.1 mm slot screen .
