AbstractEnzymatic deinking was taken with mixed office wastepaper (MOW) as a raw material. The optimization of deinking was carried out with various parameters such as flotation time, surfactant dose, reaction time with enzyme, and enzyme dose. Handsheets were made after flotation stage, then ERIC, brightness, opacity and strength properties were measured. After flotation units, the yield was also determined. Three different methods (enzymatic deinking, chemical deinking, and enzyme/chemical combination) for deinking of MOW were observed and compare together. In this study, the results have shown that enzymatic deinking is able to achieve better overall results compared to a conventional chemical deinking process and enzyme/chemical combination deinking with mixed office wastepaper as a raw material. The results also indicated that the chemical demand can be reduced 20%, but still retains several properties suchas optical, strength when compared enzyme/chemical combination with chemical deinking.
