AbstractThe research was conducted with the topic of the assessing of Non-formal education program in Myanmar: A case study of South Dagon Township provided by INGO (World Vision Myanmar). The main objective of the research was to assess the current situation of Non-formal Education provided by World Vision Myanmar in South Dagon township, Yangon region. The specific objectives of the study were to study the access to NFE in terms of enrollment, drop-out and completion rate of NFE students; to investigate learning environment of NFE centers; to assess learning outcomes or achievement of the student; to examine the satisfaction level of students and their parents on curriculum, teaching, school facilities and school support; and to give recommendations to strengthen education services and development strategies for children. The survey had been done with two groups of students who are currently attending NFE and the students who have dropped out from NFE. The research used a survey questionnaire as a prime tool with a total of 73 sampled respondents. Other data collection methods included field observation and Focus Group Discussion was also applied. The research was focused on both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Main findings of this research revealed that the majority of respondents‟ household gained information from community volunteer and the enrollment and dropout rate was high and completion rate was low in the study area. Most of students enjoyed learning in NFE center because of a safe, protective and peaceful environment. The majority of the students could perform well in the learning literacy and but had a moderate level in the numeracy skill. Furthermore, students showed more interests in the vocational skill training;however, it could not be applied well in the reality, particularly the long term training. Transition rate to formal education was increased due to project closure and government free education; however, majority of them only joined to lower primary level, a few students could return toupper primary and lower secondary level. In this project, parental involvement is also critical to support the children study in the NFE center and it was found out that parents provided more supports for their children's education at home. Additionally, mostly, the students and their parents were satisfied with the curriculum, teaching and facilities in the centers, but only few dissatisfied it with their own reasons. Certain recommendations were made to enhance the current situation of NFE program in South Dagon Township. Recommendations were suggested for different key stakeholders such as policy maker and student groups. These include to improve the status of enrollment, dropout and completion rate, provision of credits to operate business, developing new curriculum in line with education needs of target groups, provision of better facilities such as library, playground and safe drinking water.
