AbstractThought there were many disasters that were effecting the urban areas, the most common and usually effecting disaster was urban fire. As these urban fires may be caused in many ways like natural or human mistakes. This urban fire was considered as serious issue in many countries, this can be observed in both developed and developing countries as well as in India. It affects directly to human health & property, economy damages and environment. Visakhapatnam one of the most developing city in India was chosen as the study area as the biggest populated city in the Andhra Pradesh state. The availability of fire stations was not up to the limit according to urban development plans formulation and implementation of India. This study can be used to support Visakhapatnam abilities to cope with risk, to prohibit or decrease the probability of this sort of risk which may bring about death, harm, or property damage. It will help the local fire department and Municipality of the Visakhapatnam to allot fire hydrates that were not available in the city according to the hotspot maps and risk map. This helps the fire department for placing new fire stations or substations to reduce the risk level. The first objective will gives distribution pattern and hotspot of urban fire can be recognize by utilizing fire history (fire frequency and property damaged) from 2010 to 2014. The result was found that the frequency of urban fire was high in many parts of the city. After that, Cluster and Outlier Analysis function in spatial statistics tool in ArcMap is utilized to develop the urban fire hotspots in Visakhapatnam. The urban fire occurrence points with significant Moran's I value will be shown as the hotspots (High-High) which have high fire events and high property damaged. Hotspots are dispersed in different parts of city. The second objective was to develop urban fire risk map from 6 factors that was considered from expert's advice and fire officers of Visakhapatnam. The extreme risk area is about (44.23 sq.km - 16.52%) most of the area was away from the fire stations and houses on the mountains. The high risk areas (90.29 sq.km - 33.73%) are clustered along the forest area and some part of the city built-up area. The low risk area (33.77 sq.km - 12.61 %) are scattered along the ocean body and some parts of the city and top of the mountains and port area.
