AbstractThis study examined the deformation and erosion of river bank on Hari Rud River locate in the western basin of Afghanistan, from 200 0 - 2016 . the Shoreline changes detected , and Model the river ’s cross section to predict the effect of the Salma Dam on the river, which opened recently. It is the first study of this kind , as no previous study has been done be fore for Hari Rud River . In this research had used the Landsat images and very high - resolution GEO EYE images for visualization. The image classification is done for the 4 - time interval between 200 0 - 201 6 . Remote Sensing, Geographic Information system applications , and HEC - RAS were used to categorize eroded area and identify shorelines change locations. Furthermore, after the opening of Salma Dam , the discharge will be controlled and flood erosion will not be as much as previous years. In this study try to make the model of the river with protected cross section using HEC - R AS and the cross - section data will determine by DEM file using HEC GEO RAS . This study will be a beginning for this kind of research in Hari Rud River and will be useful to Water Management department for river erosion management. According to all RS - and GIS techniques , the eroded area extracted and the cross - section w as edited for predicted flow in the River.
