AbstractYangon, the former capital of Myanmar is the most developing and populated city, and economic hub of Myanmar. Most residents are living in 4 to 8 storied apartment buildings. These buildings are reinforced concrete moment frame type buildings. The site class category of Yangon can be determined as a highly seismic zone category according to the reference of ASCE 41-06. Therefore, the evaluation of seismic performance of the buildings was conducted in this study. The study had been done by using the existing 6- storyed reinforced concrete building data against two basic earthquake level, probability of 10% exceedance in 50 years earthquake and 2% exceedance in 50 years earthquake. The acceptable building performance levels against these two earthquakes were determined using ASCE 41-06 Standards. Nonlinear pushover analysis and nonlinear time history analysis had been done by using SAP 2000 v.14 program. The performance of the buildings are determined based on the flexural and fiber hinges conditions against earthquakes, the story drifts, story shear and story displacement results. As a result of pushover analysis, the buildings have enough flexural capacity to resist the ground motion excitations. The story drifts of the buildings are also within the acceptable limit. However, it is found that some beams and columns that supported to the stair case do not have enough shear capacities during the earthquakes. Therefore, it is found that the seismic performances of the buildings are reasonable but the shear capacities of the columns and beams that supported to the staircase should be improved.
