Abstract | Infilled frame are most common in low rise buildings. Masonry infilled frame structure are widely used in developing countries, also is in seismically active zones. Infill wall in reinforced concrete frame is generally not considered as structural element and neglected in analysis and design. But its effect in behavior, failure mechanism and interaction also play role to influence the structural performance. In the present study, common failure modes of infilled frame structures during past earthquake and past research are reviewed. Numerical analysis is carried out by using finite element software, DIANA on burnt clay brick masonry infilled single story single bay reinforced concrete frame under in plane lateral loading. Smeared crack continuum element and interface element are combined and used to develop the finite element model. Numerical results for bare frame, full infill and different types of infill openings are analyzed and compared with experimental results. Detailed mechanism of frame infill interaction in terms of load displacement response, stress/strain diagram and crack pattern is successfully simulated under lateral loading. |
