AbstractWireless mesh networks have emerged as main contend ing technology for next generation wireless networks due to advantageous properties like self configuration and self healing. Future networks are expected to support a heterogeneous mixture of traffic. In order to respond effectively to such scenarios , routing plays an important role. This thesis focuses on routing of data connections in IEEE 802.16d Mesh networks, commercially known as WiMAX mesh networks. A dynamic routing algorithm is proposed to pick path of each connection based on link conditions so as to avoid heavily loaded links. Performance is evaluated based on the average packet delay and the packet delivery success ratio over variations in the packet arrival rate, connection arrival rate and the randomly generated topology . The algorithm is tested separately in uplink and downlink using simulation on MATLAB software. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the traditional fixed routing based on shortest path tree.
