AbstractNoise pollution can be caused by several factors that can concern the environment in the local and global context, such as industrials, construction projects and transportation, principally highway traffic noise, mainly generated from vehicle engines, exhaust systems and tyre interacting with pavement. This research studied the statistical relationship between highway traffic noise in different type of pavement surfaces, speed, distance from roadway and traffic volume.Highway traffic noise was collected by using Statistical Pass-By method and used the energy average equivalent level of A-weighted sound (Leq) to analyze highway traffic noise. This research was more focused on highway traffic noise that is caused by tyre interacting with pavement. The specific objectives of this research is to evaluate the factors affecting traffic noise level of highways and develop the adjustment factors used for the calibration of traffic noise model in Thailand. Factors that affect the level of highway traffic noise can be vehicle type, vehicle speed and pavement surface type such as asphaltic pavement, concrete pavement and porous pavement. The study result showed highway traffic noise change varies directly with the vehicle speed, vehicle classification and inversely with distance from the roadway. Highway traffic noise occurred from concrete pavement, asphaltic concrete pavement and porous pavement give the highest to lowest noise level respectively.
