AbstractThis study aims to assess the contract administrationof the foreign aided projects in Nepal. A qualitative case study research was conducted on four projects,two each from ADB and WB. The interviewees were the key contractor’s personnel, employer and consultantof these selected cases.Further contract documents werecollected to better understand the practices and associatedproblems.The findings revealed the urge to upgrade the contract administration practices during the procurement and construction phase of the projects.Though the sequence of the activities to be followedfor foreign aided projects were similar to the local contractsprocedure,thecriteria,standards of work executionand preparation of documentationsrequired in the foreign aided projects werehigherand inflexible.The major problems faced by the local contractors were related to disputes, variation order, price fluctuationandsafety.These problemsresulted due to the noncomplianceof the work practice with the instructions and specification, impracticality and lack of fairness during implementation, incomplete clauses, external and internal deviation occurred among theclauses andwith the existingregulations.The study provides with the recommendation for each of the issues identified andthustries to enhance the contract administration of the local contractors.
