AbstractCollaboration among project participants is emphasized by many construction projects in Thailand that can affect to success of project. However, a review of the extant literature, revealed that collaboration is important in many works. The purpose of this research is to study the factors of collaboration, analyze problems and barriers that occurred in project, and propose recommendation to improve collaboration with the objective of producing a clear definition and guideline for collaboration among projectparticipants within the tunnel construction project in Thailand. Therefore, the aim of this research is to use the case study to survey the current collaboration of the volume increase for storage in Mea Goung Udomtara dam project. For research methodology, primary research was carried out in order to provide a clearer picture of what collaboration is. Secondary research was reviewed the project document that involved such as contract, reports, and journals. The qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews. Selective of 8 specialists who have experience more than 10 years and work in different organization of project participants such as owner, consultant, and contractors that were approached to take part in interviews to identify aspects of collaboration. The factors in the interviews were selected in importance based on the analysis of results from literature review. For the result, the interviews produced the processes of collaborative working and 4 main factors such as trust and reliability, role, communication, and decision making include problems and barriers and recommendation which the participants considered were relevant to collaboration. The 4 main factors were explained and the essential aspects to collaboration identified. The findings of this research indicated that the collaborative working in project is good condition. There are factors that are associated with collaborative working and have internal relationship among factors. Moreover, factors affect the effective collaboration and cause problems and barriers if theeffective of collaboration is low. However, the results provide an indication of which of the many aspects identified are essential if a collaborative environment is to be established and the collaboration can different depend on vision and culture of organization or type of construction.
