AbstractFlooding is a regular and common disaster in Ayutthaya. The aims of this study are to assess flood preparedness and response strategies and measures of both local people and government concerned in Pratuchai sub-district, Ayutthaya. The study was conducted specifically keeping focus with the local people who engaged in tourism activities therein. In addition, international and Thai tourists were assessed through questionnaires because the study area is an official location of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Primary and Secondary data were utilized respectively, to assess flood preparedness and response strategies in Ayutthaya; an assessment by using questionnaires and interviews with local people who were engaged in tourism activities and institutions concerned in the study area. The floods affect the cultural heritage site and the livelihood of local people engaged in tourism activities. They lack of income for at least two months. Many of the tourism businesses located near the river but local people engaged in this business are lack of flood awareness. On the other hand, authorities have high awareness toward flood. As a result of flood vulnerability assessment of tourist places, Chedi Phra Si Suriyothai and Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park are ranked highest vulnerable place. Flood management in Ayutthaya focused more on relief and recovery phase rather than emphasis on preparedness, prevention, mitigation, and vulnerability reduction. Finally, the coordination between disaster management authority, tourism organization and tourism business is the important key for tourism disaster management. The authorities concerned can integrate collaborative in order to plan for flood preparedness and response not only for local people but also the safety of tourists.
