Abstract | Electricity is one of the necessary factors for daily human life, which is not only a big part in our daily lives at home, but it is also very important for all the things in modern life. The electricity consumption highly depends on behavior of occupants. In order to improve the efficiency of using energy, one critical step is to understand how energy is currently utilized. The aim of this study was developing cloud-based near real-time monitoring of electricity usage and human occupancy inside buildings which provide online information on web map. Cloud computing is used to store and link data which are collected by sensors. Monitoring electricity usage system used digital image processing method for optical charter recognize. Automated reading electricity meter is processed on Raspberry PI by using OpenCV. Besides that, WiFi connections are used as a proxy for human occupancy, which is a simple and new method to measure activity. Data on electricity usage and WiFi connections are stored on cloud based. Web map is generated by CartoDB platform while chart is created by CartoDB API and chart.js. All data are automatically collected, stored, linked, updated and visualized in near real-time. The result of this study was the application which published the near real-time electricity usage and human occupancy maps with charts of last twenty four hours data on website. It led to awareness of electricity usage, and human occupancy in buildings. The subject gain the advantages of this system are residents who stay in accommodation buildings and office of the facilities and assets management (OFAM) in Asian Institute of Technology. In part of OFAM, the management of these data helps OFAM to make physical planning easier and timely response in emergency situations. In part of the user, they can access near real-time electricity usage and human occupancy on the website so they access this application everywhere and every time which the internet is available. Moreover, this application is easy understand which also helps resident to adjust their behavior and habits saving and using efficiency energy. |
