Abstract | The opening up of a new region to tourism can bring many benefits, but can also bring with it potential for negative impact if improperly managed. Based firmly in stakeholder engagement, this thesis looks at the potential and perceived impact of a small resort development in Lombok upon the community nearby, the potential impact of the community on the resort, plus the opportunity that resort has to make positive change whilst at the same time meeting and safeguarding business objectives. Through extensive research and analysis; issues of importance, materiality and risk for all stakeholders are identified and prioritised, and a Community Investment strategy designed to address these in the form of four key proposed projects is presented, offering practical solutions and recommendations to solving real basic social need while maintaining value for stakeholders. |
