Abstract | According to the Vietnam Information and Communication Technology – White Book 2009 issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication in 2009, the market share of EVNTelecom internet service is around six percent and going down. Efforts have been made to find solutions that help EVNTelecom reach the mission to capture twenty percent of internet market share in Vietnam in 2012. This research on “A new strategy for EVNTelecom internet service” is necessary. The research suggests a competitive strategy for EVNTelecom to go forward. It also makes some recommendations for EVNTelecom’s transformation. To achieve these objectives, an industry analysis is conducted to specify current position of EVNTelecom in the market. An analyzing EVNTelecom’s value chain in providing broadband internet service is conducted; it also identifies company’s strengths and weaknesses in term of offer, resource and competitive advantages in bringing value to their customers. Based on competitive advantages and industry success factors, market segments are proposed, including customer category and service that EVNTelecom should concentrate in the future. The results of such analyses show that EVNTelecom has a great advantage of the broad infrastructure which consists of the strongest fiber cable system among ISPs in Vietnam, the available power stations, power towers, offices in every cities and provinces. This is a crucial factor and it is not easy to imitate or substitute by other ISPs in the near future. Besides, EVNTelecom is subsidiary of EVN Group, the sole electricity provider in Vietnam and themselves have full licenses, so they can provide a total solution to their customers. Based on that, EVNTelcom can shorten delivery time and lower cost in providing internet service for the customers if they improve business processes and available human resources. Based on these findings, recommendations were made to help EVNTelecom improve internet service business. The most prominent recommendation is to extend the network coverage to all the provinces to provide the service in the whole nationwide as soon as possible. In addition, EVNTelecom should stay resolutely focused on their niche which is customer in the new building and new residential area. |
