AbstractManaging supply chain in service industry is a new aspect that requires more studies and researches for improvement. Since service industry deals with people rather than materials, it has higher degree of variation and uncertainty. In particularly, no-show problem has always been an issue for various service industries that can be formulated by using stochastic mathematical model. An overbooking model is used as an approach to compensate no-show problem. This research focuses on using overbooking model to compensate and observe the effect of both no-show and walk-in on outpatient clinic, one of service operations in healthcare industry. To achieve the solution over no-show problem, an overbooking model is used to find the assignment that balance between profit, patients’ waiting time, server’s idle time and overtime cost. By using stochastic mathematical model and MATLAB formulation, this research studies overbooking model and also proposes the overbooking model with non-homogeneous arrival walk-in patients. The proposed model uses non-homogeneous Poisson process to represents different arrival pattern of walk-in patients. Therefore, under variety of conditions, the model is flexible and provides the optimal assignment that compensates no-show problem.
