Abstract | Myanmar has been going through the pro-development economic reformation in various sectors and the growth rate of the economy has seen to be higher lately and many of foreign investments and international enterprises have been pouring in to the country recently. Many international enterprises see Myanmar as the last niche in Southeast Asia for a whole new investment as well as the only place where no major competitor has set foot in. However, the understanding of local practices is essential for any foreign business in Myanmar. In this paper, the business culture of myanmar will be studied based on the analysis of the quantitative research. Through the examination of the intercultural issues and influence of cultural factors within national and multinational organizations, the overall business culture of Myanmar will be explained. Survey questionnaire data for quantitative research were collected from the participants who have two to forty years of experiences in their professional fields and currently employed by profit as well as non-profit organizations in Myanmar. The qualitative research interviews were also conducted with seven executives from different organizations so as to acquire the information of HRM measures and problems, the organizational comportments and practices, the extant of employee engagement and organizational commitment in the overall business environment in Myanmar. By verifying the difficulties and challenges faced by those various organizations, the hypothesis will be provided based on the relevant facts, academic and non-academic literatures. With the analysis of problems and necessary recommendations, this final project paper is expected to deliver a deeper understanding into cross-cultural human resource management issues and what benefits it could bring to the national and international organizations in Myanmar |
