AbstractKoh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket, with a population of about fifty-five thousand. The island has been showing an extra ordinary fast development and growth of tourism industry in the last ten years. Not only growth, Koh Samui also has been changing from budget / back-packers destination to more diversified market as indicated by the rapid establishments of upscale, luxury and branded accommodation (hotel and resorts) in the last few years. The luxury industry of Koh Samui has been growing very fast over the last three years. FSR-KS, as one of the first luxury hotel entering the market, currently is facing many new chain (brand) hotels as competitors. Despite still being the market leader, FSR-KS need to review its strategic implications towards all these new addition to the island (by 2012, there are total of 42% additional luxury hotels in the market). This analysis is conducted to assess the changes within hotel luxury industry on the island of Koh Samui, faced by Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui (FSR-KS). The industry analysis for this final project is done using Porter‘s Five Forces, followed by analyzing the sustainability FSHR competitive advantage. Industry data is taken from ‗Horwarth 2011‘ report. The last chapter concludes Porter Five Forces analysis, followed the sustainability of Four Seasons competitive advantage. The strategic implications to FSR-KS caused by the industry change, is also outlined on the last chapter, followed by recommendations for FSHR and FSR-KS.
