AbstractThis study examines the factors of physical expansion in Russei Keo district, a suburban area of Phnom Penh city, Cambodia. Analyses of influence factors include, population growth and its density, economic activities, infrastructure development and land availability, which are the main causes of this transition. As Russei Keo district is under rapid growth in population and real estate developments, it has raised a concern of urban flood inundation due to the insufficiency of the local infrastructure development. A new town development, Camko city, is one of the biggest developments in this area were chose to be the case study of this research thesis, to find out its impact relate to urban flood inundation. In order to analyze urban flood inundation of this study case, this report has divided the analysis into two main sections that influence the flood issue in the area, which are natural factors and human related factors. In natural factors, there are analyses of annual rainfall, topography location of the study area and soil conditions, while human related factor are mainly focusing on the stormwater management of Camko city project local community and local government sector. The study reveals that, Camko city is one of the key factors that influence the increasing of urban storm inundation in the area by its project development especially, the land filling activities. The lack of stormwater management from this private project and local government is also another main influence factor causing this urban flood inundation. More importantly, the linkage of project development and relate local government sectors is also found that to be weak and overlook in term of stormwater control and management. A guideline has been proposed to improve this linkage and mitigate the issue of urban inundation from relate stakeholders.
