Abstract | Production and operations strategy play an important role in part of firm’s overall business strategy. Productivity improvement is one of important strategies that most of manufacturing companies are focusing on in order to maintain their competitive advantages over competitors. With successful productivity improvement, it will not only help to reduce unit cost, but also to improve service level to customers because we have reliable on time deliver. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement is one of key strategy that the company, Johnson & Johnson, is emphasizing to improve productivity. This study focuses OEE improvement of ESP 1 which is the most important and complicate sanitary napkin machine in the plant. With the lowest OEE of ESP1, we want to find the most suitable production run time for each product variant produced on this machine that would give target % OEE while balancing inventory level. We vary production run time for each product variant. % OEE at each production run time for each product variant is simulated. Based on our assumption and simulation, we implement new production run time for each product variant. After implementing new running time, we conduct test of hypothesis and can conclude that the new running time gives better % OEE than that of current running time. |
