Automatic Laos’s license plate recognition

AbstractLicense plate recognition is one of the academic computer technology fields that suing image processing and computer vision learning algorithm to analyze images and localize the license plate for recognition. In the last several year, there are a lot of research have been focus on license plate recognition technology to improve and automatic license plate recognition system. In this study, I will focus on several algorithms through the recognition process. There are many type of Lao license plate which they are different color but almost are similar format and plate size. Therefore applying AdaBoost learning algorithm for license plate detection is the option for this project. To identify the plate color is also important task to get more detail of what type of the plate because Lao’s license plate in different plate color can have the same registration ID. K-mean clustering algorithm was applied to analyze two dominant color of the license plate and original image RGB convert to HSV for color segmentation and easier to identify the color value by hue, saturation and value . Binary image and contour detection is the common way and technic for characters segmentation. For recognition step, histogram orientation of gradient (HOG) was used for extract the image data for training support vector machine (SVM) and for characters recognition. Lastly, neural network is also implementing to recognize the province Patten recognition. OCR algorithm is the main function of the recognition process. The system is implemented or OpenCV with C++, and it performance is tested on real image.
