Change management : a case study of applying ERP at Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP)

AbstractPetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation was inaugurated on 4th May 2007 as an one shareholder company as a merger of PetroVietnam Investment Development Company and PetroVietnam Exploration Production Company. The Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group owns 100% of its capital. The setting up of this Corporation is a breakthrough in the petroleum industry, helping to unify the management of all business activities in the field of exploration and production in Viet Nam and overseas. PVEP’s exploration and production operations have been taking place frequently both in and outside Viet Nam. In Viet Nam, PVEP has been implementing petroleum projects in Song Hong, Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, Malay - Tho Chu and Truong Sa sedimentary basins. It has made its presence felt in 13 countries belonging to hydrocarbon potential areas around the world such as the Middle East, Northern and Central Africa, Latin America and South East Asia. Globalisation has been developing throughout the world, Government recognize the vital problem in insuring country’s energy security. Trends toward exploration of oil and gas under the deep water raise the cost for any exploration and production of oil and gas company. Along with advance technology applying managing company’s business activities – ERP to reduce management costs, to increase efficiency, timely and integrate information among departments, and especially to keep up with integrating into world oil and gas sector, PVEP has found its solutions to this issue. In the research, the author with many years working with PVEP has found that ERP become the most appropriate solutions for PVEP to control its business and integrate into global trend. With target to apply ERP in PVEP, the author has summary all its drivers to change, ERP and ERP applications in the company. In the last chapter, the author has proposed solution to implement this solution.
