AbstractThe main objective of any business enterprise as told by Peter Drucker is to `create customers` the pre-conditions of which are satisfying and delighting a customer. The competitiveness problem which many enterprises are faced with is not of “foreign” competition, but of nontraditional competition. Competition for future is to explore, compete to create and identify emerging opportunities – to fashion out new competitive space. To achieve the objective the enterprise needs to continuously `recreate` itself. In this game of continuous recreation the basic model is being revised. In this WTO - ruled global village, the fittest corporation of the 21st century and beyond is one “that masters the art of competition, when acting alone, and the art of collaboration when a part of world-wide network”. As successful corporates bask in the glory of achievements, the prudent ones do not get complacent. Investing in the future is no longer necessarily related to isolated product innovation or process innovation. Business innovation has become a mandatory functional component of any business. Integrating businesses through successful linkage of business strategies to technology strategies is a model of business excellence. The process requires the catalytic powers of communication to act as strategic founder and tie in different stakeholders. After all, the strength of a chain is measured by the strength of its weakest link. With the fast changing business demands, it needs individual functions of a business to not only upgrade its expertise, but at the same time indulge itself into new roles that add value to the business. Maximizing the usage of existing skill sets and discovering new competency that benefit the company is where innovation lies. It is an experiment to transform a defined function from its traditional stereotyped role to assume a strategic position, with the power enough to bring about the desired transformation in the company. This paper is an effort to capture the company in distinct frames of business and explore possibilities that foster business integration – to design a model for doing business even tomorrow
