Abstract | Shutdown projects are the most expensive and time-consuming in maintenance process of oil
exploitation at sea since they result in the loss of production, which is very costly. However,
shutdown is indispensable in oil production for it increases equipment reliability and
durability. It also ensures production integrity and reduces the risk of unscheduled outages or
failure. In shutdown process, the operating plant must completely stop the normal work for
check-up and reparation until everything functions properly again & returns to normal
production conditions.
Maintenance and reliability are important delegation and efficiency tools to help meet
organizational goals and production targets. In the fast increase of offshore facilities at Cuu
Long Joint-Operating Company (CLJOC) in recent years, the success of each project is largely
dependent on effective shut down for maintenance and reliability, which determines the
performance and profitability optimization of each field. Accumulated understanding of the
issues and good lessons learnt from previous shutdown projects is important to improve the
financial & operational safety aspects for future shutdown projects. This is very meaningful to
the company and to some extent, the oil exploitation industry as well.
Each year our company set the uptime goal, called DOE (Directional Operations Estimation).
Basically, it is the percentage of uptime operations in a year.
The goal is set based on the shutdown plan of individual platform in the field. Therefore each
shutdown project has to be managed and planned properly so as to ensure the annual
production target of the company.
This research case is to review and analyze the common issues and good learning derived from
previous shutdown projects that I have participated at CLJOC in the past 2 years. The
recommendations on effective solutions in shutdown executions are important and very useful
for coming projects of an operating company in the oil industry like CL JOC. |
