Delay causes of thermal power project in Vietnam : a case study of Quang Ninh I Thermal Power Project

AbstractProject time is the most important criteria of the project’s success and is the highest concern to some projects which are related to the construction industry. However, there are many studies showed that rarely projects are completed on time. This study will focus on identification of significant causes affecting completion time in Quang Ninh I project. This report presents the results of a interview process conducted among the engineers, colleagues and some managers. Data was analyzed with MS project tool to determine the delayed progress and the delayed time affecting the project time. It is concluded that Time of Quang Ninh project was influenced by six main factors such as continuous changes and the overlaps of regulations of government, land cleareance of owner, impact of weather condition of environment, shortage of material and equipment, lach of manpower and finally EPC unreasonable and unprofessional performance of the contractor. The study also had a detailed analyzing about these causes and suggested some solutions to prevent and control the delay situation of not only Quang Ninh I project but also of other construction projects in Vietnam.
