| Abstract | Design and Build is a contemporary delivery system in Vietnam construction industry. Any contractors who want to practice DB model for DB projects successfully must establish a design management system controlling the design process effectively and efficiently. The DB contractor can be a general contractor who takes responsibilities in both design and construction tasks in which the design tasks will dominate the DB process and can be offered to different out-sourced design firms. Therefore, the crucial task of the Project Design Manager (PDM) from the DB contractor is managing the design progress, cost management, schedule management, document and information management as well as professional interdisciplinary relationships in order to ensure that the design packages can be delivered for construction within contractual budget and schedule constraints. Moreover, constructability is also checked and implemented into any of the design issues. Consequently, it can be realized that design management task is the key to execute the DB project from the starting point until construction building is able to be handed over to the owner. This study is conducted in order to analyze the practices of a reality D&B project and then to establish frameworks of how to do a D&B project more effectively and easily |
