Abstract | The paper studied the financial inclusion and its determinants in Cambodia. Using the micro level data from Global Financial Inclusion Index database in 2014, the paper aims to identify the relationship between financial inclusion and individual characteristics including income, education, gender, and age. As variables of interest are binary, instead of Probit method, this study applied Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. The paper approached the financial inclusion from the demand side focusing on two dimensions: usage and barriers. Financial account, mobile account, formal saving, and formal credit are used as measurements of usage. Barriers are determined by the motives reported by the respondents not to have an account. The study finds that income, education, and age are the three important determinants affecting the decision whether or not to use the financial services. While, for individuals who are unbanked, the paper discovers that education and age determines their perceptions towards different barriers of financial inclusion. The finding of the paper would provide some insightful information for any policies initiatives to promote inclusive finance which ultimately increases economic growth and the wellbeing of the society at large. |
