Abstract | A strategy can lead to the success or failure of an organization. All organizations are facing the challenges of strategic development, for instance, grasping new opportunities or overcoming significant problems (Johnson et al, 2005, Page 6). PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services Corporation, a Vietnamese drilling company specializing in providing drilling and high technical drilling services, is also encountering the problem of how to increase the Jack-up rig fleet to enhance its position in the domestic market. This dissertation is an attempt to identify the specific strategy for the company to grow in the future. The dissertation employs case study method approach, in which PV Drilling is considered as a single case study. Based on the analysis of Porter’s Five Forces Model for competition, and PV Drilling’s SWOT, conclusions and recommendations regarding strategic options for the company will be drawn. The research reveals that to develop the mid-term strategy, the company should invest in one more new Jack-up rig. Finally, a suggested timeline for strategic implementation is presented. |
