Abstract | According to Petrovietnam’s forecast in 2010, the demand for natural gas in Vietnam in recent years has been increasing because of the fast socio-economic development. Therefore fore, the number of Joint Operating Companies in Vietnam to find and develop hydrocarbon resources - particularly gas field has been growing in the past ten years. For more than 16 years of operation of offshore gas processing platform, Gas Operation Division (GOD) has gained a lot of experience and developed skilful manpower in offshore gas industry. Especially, GOD is a well-known brand name and with a good image for compression platform operation and maintenance in Vietnam’s oil and gas activities. However, so far GOD has not been using its good image to expand the technical service in supplying maintenance of gas specific industrial equipment to other Oil and Gas Companies to get more revenue and benefit while the associated gas production has been declining year by year since 2003 due to crude oil production which reached the peak in the same year and has decreased subsequently in the following years. Moreover, the existing organizational structure for implementation operation, maintenance and repair activities on the GOD’s offshore platform has some disadvantages which impact seriously on the GOD’s performance of maintenance activities. By improving and re-allocating company’s human resource, GOD can set up an onshore technical service base including professional maintenance teams for maintenance activities. This will be a good foundation for GOD to work more efficiently in terms of technical maintenance and on the other hand, expand the external technical service to get more revenue and profit. The objective of the research is to give suggestions how to enhance the maintenance activities and exploit the experience and utilize the existing capability to develop external services. |
