Abstract | This thesis describes the development of automation system for hydropower plant with Francis turbine. In this thesis an attempt has been made to use PLC for application, design and implementation of computer-based control and automation of hydropower plant. Automation system has been carried out and focused only unit startup and shutdown. Now that it can be implemented for comparable costs and advantages as relay-based logic and can incorporate additional features, it is being used in hydropower plants in the world, both in new and old plants for installation and rehabilitation. Computer-based automation can perform more accurately, consistently and safely. The HMI is used for machine parameters and status monitoring in addition controllability of unit operation. The design of a new automation system with computer-based control system using PLC is implemented for Kinda Hydropower Plant, under responsibility of Hydropower Generation Enterprise (HPGE), Myanmar. Kinda Hydropower Plant, which is a 2 x 28 MW hydropower generating plant, commissioned at 1985 after construction period of five years and average annual energy generation of approximately 156MWh. The two units are Francis Turbine driven synchronous generator at 250 rpm. |
