Abstract | Cement industry is considered as one of the important industries since it plays a vital role in infrastructure development of Vietnam. It has developed rapidly and strongly, and the cement demand has reached 50 million tons in 2010. With increased globalization nowadays, many businesses are facing with some difficulties in aggressively competing with rivals, especially in Vietnamese market. To maintain business operation, CEO of some enterprises must give solutions/strategies to solve problems/difficulties timely. Of effective strategies, supply chain management is an effective tool for many businesses to implement their strategies. Holcim Vietnam Ltd., a cement company, has the need to optimize bulk cement product transportation to customers for improving activities and competitive advantages. In recent years, a demand on bulk cement product is increasing more and more while there is a lack of potential transportation service providers. With an appropriate transportation strategy development, it is hoped that HVL not only can reduce costs to reach the optimum but also can meet all requirements from customers on time. This case research will analyze the reasons that have caused lack of reliable suppliers in bulk cement product transportation in HVL. The main factors analyzed in this research are related to the legal requirement about tankers, transporters at HVL. And more importantly, the case research also proposed the solutions to overcome the current situation in HVL. |
