Abstract | The resilience matrix (RM) is proposed by (Lui et al, 2009a; Lui et al, 2009b) for storing and exchanging information in a distributed network environment with low control complexity. However, the RM scheme only keeps track of the capacity in each link without considering the wavelength continuity constraint. Hence, it can operate only in opaque switching networks. This thesis extends the RM framework for transparent switching networks with the wavelength continuity constraint. The RM is modified by the addition of wavelength assignment which can be first-fit or most-used. Furthermore, the thesis expands the process of recording and exchanging information to consider wavelengths for survivable routing. Three protection schemes are investigated: dedicated path protection, shared path protection with common wavelength, and shared path protection possibly with different wavelengths. Moreover, we examine the performances of the three survivable routing schemes in terms of the blocking probability and the control complexity which are the average routing table size and the number of control information exchanges. Finally, the modified RM scheme is simulated to compare the complexity of control information exchange with the modified RM under centralized control. |
