AbstractThe study presents a derivation for per-tier outage probability and transmission capacity of a randomly deployed femtocell network over an existing macrocell network. The channel characteristics of macro user and femto user are addressed by consider- ing di®erent propagation modeling on outdoor and indoor links, with Rayleigh fading and log normal shadowing respectively. Location based outage probability analysis and capacity of the system with outage constraints are used to analyze the system characteristics. To obtain the simpli¯ed expressions, approximations of ratios of ex- ponential random variables (RVs), exponential to log Normal RVs and their weighted summations are numerically derived, and veri¯ed using simulations. The latter section of the study focuses on providing an optimal power allocation scheme for the system. Numbers of di®erent optimization scenarios are considered including the integration of OFDMA scheme into the system and compare the power consumption, transmission rates and energy per bit for each case. Each approach is compared with others to analyze the system behavior. Also for the system with the OFDMA scheme, we provide suboptimal algorithm for the sub-channel allocation concerning both signal and interference channel gains. Finally simulated numerical results are provided to validate the comparisons.
