AbstractSiemens AG announced Carve out of one of its cross division business Siemens IT Solutions and Services (SIS). . The purpose of this document is to study carve outs in general to get an understanding of what is carve out, why companies do carve outs and what are the consequences of carve outs. The objective of this study of carve out is to gain an understanding about carve out as a business strategy and understand why companies do carve outs and what is the effect on the business in terms of shareholder value (or destruction) among others. Once a basic understanding about carve outs is obtained, it is be used to apply to the case of SIS carve out from Siemens. As is the case with most carve outs, the actual motive behind the carve out is not explicitly stated, or the official statement does not state all the motives of the management.
