AbstractIn recent years, performing social networking activities over MANETs have attracted the attention of research community. It is mainly due to flexible, cost saving and infrastructure less architecture of MANET. However, the problems like efficiency in finding nodes of similar interest and occurrence of network partition exist together in social ad hoc networking environment. Various interest matching algorithm along with routing protocols have been proposed which enables users to find friends of common interest. And for enabling social ad hoc networking even in an intermittent network scenario, Delay Tolerant Network emerges as a solution to deal with routing issues over a partitioned network. In this thesis, a novel algorithm has been proposed which allows users to find friends of similar interest. The users can not only search for friends only in their neighborhood, but can also search in entire network with the help of a mechanism provided by DTN which is known as store and forward mechanism. Four measurement metrics, cosine similarity, jaccard coefficient, correlation and dice coefficient are used to calculate similarity between user’s interests where change of user’s interest are considered at every 5, 10, 15 minutes and any random time. Simulations are carried out to evaluate best similarity measurement metric and success ratio of finding friends in the network with different values of no. of nodes and speed of nodes.
