AbstractThe mobile phone industry in Vietnam is one of the most attractive businesses for many players. The government has realized the importance of telecommunications so they have made favorable legal terms for telecommunications development. The more the economy grows, the more the society develops. The needs of using mobile phone, therefore, increase. The mobile phone is so popular and useful that many people use it everywhere even students and retail sellers who have quite low income. This could not be seen three or four years ago. Before the emergence of Viettel Mobile, the mobile phone service market in Vietnam was dominated by VinaPhone and MobiFone. During that period, VinaPhone was the market leader for nearly ten years. After 2005, with the participation of other providers such as Viettel Mobile, S-Fone, HT Mobile, EVN Telecom, the situation has changed dramatically. The company is facing challenging problems in maintaining its current market position, and in trying to improve upon the current situation. In this research, the focus is on VinaPhone’s Sales and Marketing Department. Given the fact that all three major providers are comparable in terms of technologies and network coverage, the services provided by the Sales and Marketing Department will be the decisive factor to maintain and to grow the company’s customer base and market share in an intensively competitive market.
