AbstractThis thesis presents the identification of sustainable competitive advantages and how to maintain them with an optimal competitive strategy for Vicem But Son Joint Stock Company (VBS). The company has been struggling with ineffective business performance for the last two years while the cement industry is expected to encounter more difficulties in 2013. The author uses PEST framework and the Five-force model to scan the external environment while internal environment is analysed with the Value chain model. Based on the comparison with current competitors, outstanding attributes of VBS has been drawn out. Among those attributes, the author identifies two competitive advantages of the company over its rivals, which are the popularity of the brand name and the high product quality. SWOT analysis is conducted to devise possible competitive strategies, then the optimal strategy is to be picked by GREAT evaluation. It is found that the best competitive strategy for VBS is the Focus strategy. To apply this strategy in practice, the author proposes some recommendations for VBS.
