AbstractThis paper attempts to shed light on the e-waste generation from the banking sector of Bangladesh. Like other sector in the economy of the country, Banking is one of major sectors which have a vibrant contribution to the national economy. Bangladesh, an emerging economy of South Asia is going through a transition period and already came under attention of the global community for attaining significant progress in various growth and developmental index. In this journey, Bangladesh Bank, the Central Bank of Bangladesh is also playing an important role by formulating different timely policies and guiding the banking sector to support the economic growth of the country. Besides growth concern, another priority concerned issues of Bangladesh Bank is to transform the whole banking sector a digitalized and technology based sector so that this sector can support the economic growth with more transparency and greater efficiency. On the other hand, Bangladesh Bank is also keen on sustainable and environmental friendly development and in this endeavor BB has opened up its new department named Green Banking and CSR Department. Although having all those laudable initiatives, e-waste could be a conflict between huge automation initiatives taken by the banking sector and the environmental friendly development if not addressed in time and banking sector could be potential source for environmental and health hazard. Hence, this study tried to assess the environmental risk by estimating e-waste generation from banking sector of Bangladesh. This might be a new scope of work for the newly formed Green Banking and CSR Department of Bangladesh Bank. Finally the study has proposed a set of policy guidelines that could be adopted by the banking sector to set an example for other growing sectors in the country
